Description

Boater's World is your Sacrificial Anode Center. We want to make sure engine troubles don't keep you from having fun on the water! No matter where you choose to do your boating, we have all the right products to help take care of your boat. Read this quick overview on how to protect you engine from corrosion! What causes corrosion? Seawater is a good conductor and freshwater a bad conductor, so corrosion is worse in seawater. Generally, corrosion rates increase in proportion to the amount of oxygen in the water. However, cracks and crevices, which are areas starved of oxygen, become anodic and corrode also. Higher temperature increases corrosion rates - doubling for every 30 degrees C (55 degrees F). There are various types of microorganisms that can contribute to corrosion, either by removing protection or causing a corrosive environment. Why do I need anodes? You need anodes on your engine because when two different metals are in contact, electrons will flow from the more negatively charged metal (anode) to the more positive metal (cathode). If you want to protect both types of metal from corrosion, you must add a third metal such as zinc, although magnesium and aluminum are also used. This active metal becomes the anode for both metals. The zinc or aluminum sacrifices itself to protect the other two metals, hence the term ''sacrificial anode''.Do's and Don'tsDO change your anode when they are 50 percent corroded DO make sure they make good electrical contact - remove paint and clean the mounting surface.DO protect trim tabs individually (do not bond). Although they are usually made from stainless steel they can still corrode and need sacrificial anodes.DO be sure to use new fasteners on sterndrives - even stainless bolts fail as a result of corrosion.DO keep a sterndrive immersed in the water so that the anodes can work. DON'T use zinc anodes on aluminum outdrivesDON'T paint anodes. They will not

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: What material is the Martyr CMZHC2AZ made of? A: The Martyr CMZHC2AZ is made of zinc alloy. This material is specifically chosen for its effectiveness in providing cathodic protection for metal surfaces.
  • Q: What are the dimensions of the Martyr CMZHC2AZ anode? A: The dimensions are five point seven five inches in length, two point seven inches in width, and zero point seven five inches in height. These measurements make it suitable for various applications on pleasure craft boats.
  • Q: Is the Martyr CMZHC2AZ suitable for fresh water use? A: No, the Martyr CMZHC2AZ is not recommended for use in fresh water. It is specifically designed for saltwater applications, where corrosion is more prevalent.
  • Q: How do I install the Martyr CMZHC2AZ anode? A: To install the Martyr CMZHC2AZ, ensure it has good electrical contact by cleaning the mounting surface. Attach it securely using new fasteners to avoid corrosion issues.
  • Q: How often should I replace the anode? A: You should replace the anode when it is fifty percent corroded. Regular checks ensure optimal performance and protection of your boat's engine.
  • Q: Can I use the Martyr CMZHC2AZ with aluminum outdrives? A: No, you should not use zinc anodes on aluminum outdrives. This can lead to galvanic corrosion and damage to the aluminum parts.
  • Q: How do I maintain the Martyr CMZHC2AZ anode? A: To maintain the anode, regularly check for corrosion and replace it when necessary. Keep it clean and ensure it remains in contact with the water for effective protection.
  • Q: What is the lifespan of the Martyr CMZHC2AZ anode? A: The lifespan varies based on water conditions, but typically, you should replace it when it is about fifty percent consumed. Regular inspections will help you gauge its effectiveness.
  • Q: Does the Martyr CMZHC2AZ need to be painted? A: No, you should not paint the Martyr CMZHC2AZ anode. Painting can inhibit its ability to protect against corrosion effectively.
  • Q: Is the Martyr CMZHC2AZ safe to use on all types of boats? A: Yes, the Martyr CMZHC2AZ is suitable for ocean-going vessels and various pleasure craft. Ensure it's the right fit for your specific boat type.
  • Q: What makes the Martyr CMZHC2AZ anode high quality? A: The Martyr CMZHC2AZ anode is manufactured through pressure diecasting and adheres to strict quality standards under an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Q: Can I use fasteners from my old anode on the Martyr CMZHC2AZ? A: No, it is recommended to use new fasteners when installing the Martyr CMZHC2AZ. Even stainless steel fasteners can fail due to corrosion.
  • Q: How does the Martyr CMZHC2AZ protect my boat's engine? A: The Martyr CMZHC2AZ provides cathodic protection by sacrificing itself to protect other metals in contact with seawater, preventing corrosion.
  • Q: What types of metals does the Martyr CMZHC2AZ protect? A: It protects iron, steel, aluminum, magnesium, and other metals from corrosion in saltwater environments.
  • Q: What should I do if the Martyr CMZHC2AZ arrives damaged? A: If the Martyr CMZHC2AZ arrives damaged, contact the seller immediately for a return or exchange. Ensure to keep the original packaging for the return process.
